We Make Filing a Claim Easier

Making a claim can be the most difficult part of insurance. Not only can the process be long and complex, you are likely feeling a range of emotions associated with the claim. We provide a level of claims advocacy that comes from our years of experience and expertise.

Smith & Associates Insurance is on your side. As brokers, we don't work for any particular insurance company – which means we work for you. Our experienced brokers can help you through the claims process, so that you can keep your focus on what really matters: getting on with your life.

If you are making an after-hours claim, choose your insurance company from companies list.

Steps to Making a Claim

The steps below will help ensure that your interests are covered during the claim process and that the process runs smoothly.

1

Contact the Appropriate Authorities

In the event of an accident or other emergency, immediately call 911 and report the incident to the appropriate authorities (police, fire, ambulance, etc.). If there is no danger of personal injury such as in a case of vandalism or theft, file a report with the police as soon as possible. Make sure you keep a note of the Incident Report reference number.

2

Take All Reasonable Steps to Prevent Further Damage

If it is safe to do so, do everything possible to prevent further damage (for example, turn off water main in the case of a burst pipe). Do not do anything that could put your health or life in danger.

3

Contact Smith & Associates Insurance (or use our App)

Contact our Smith & Associates Insurance office as soon as possible after everyone is safe and further damage has been prevented. We'll make an initial assessment regarding coverage and report the claim to an adjuster, who will assess damage and complete the insurance claim.  Be prepared to give us as much detail as you can, including the following:

  • Date and time of incident
  • Description of what happened
  • Injuries if any
  • Information involving any other party involved in the loss (name, address, phone number, and insurance information)
  • Incident Report reference number from the police (if applicable)
  • Photos of the incident (if safe to take)
